An evening that explores filmmaker, Trina Bardusco’s, quest for documenting the soul of musicians and of whole communities. The program also features the debut of music video, Hymnal, by Lambertville based Those Looks—a self-proclaimed “velvet wave band from the wilds of New Jersey” that was also directed by Trina. Those Looks are looking forward to celebrating with the community! Join us for a toast in celebration, plus coffee and light snacks.
All arts are capable of duende, but where it finds greatest range, naturally, is in music, dance, and spoken poetry, for these arts require a living body to interpret them, being forms that are born, die, and open their contours against an exact present.”
- Federico García Lorca
All artists strive for moments of duende, but capturing the duende in others is an art unto itself. Trina has a lifelong practice of unleashing her sense of spirited exploration in creative, adventurous ways.
In her pilot episode of Going Solo, she travels to Spain, chasing top flamenco artists and immersing herself in the culture to collect sparks of duende along the way. “Duende is the fiery spirit that drives flamenco…its soul. There is an unparalleled level of authenticity needed in flamenco to convey such a richness of emotion,” says Trina.
She also brings to light how important it is to find duende in our own backyards, exploring the unique form of cultural expression happening right here in Lambertville. “Turns out that every country, every culture has its own duende. Putting myself in these different shoes adds a new dimension to my understanding of how people in the world genuinely express themselves by feeling their own culture.”
