Juliette of the Herbs is a beautifully filmed lyrical portrait of the life and work of Juliette de Bairacli Levy: world renowned herbalist, author, breeder of Afghan hounds, friend of the Gypsies, traveller in search of herbal wisdom and the pioneer of holistic veterinary medicine. For more than 60 years Juliette lived with the Gypsies, nomads and peasants of the world, learning the healing arts. Juliette’s well-loved and now classic herbals for animals and for children have been a vital inspiration for the present day herbal renaissance and holistic animal care community. Filmed on location in Greece, Spain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, England and America, Juliette of the Herbs is an inspiring portrait of a remarkable healer.

Tish StreetenTish Streeten, Director, has been making documentary films for more than 15 years and studying herbal medicine for more than 30 years. She studied agricultural botany at the University College of North Wales and worked throughout Europe and America as an organic farmer, gardener, fruit picker and herbalist. Her first film, Community Dig, aired on public television. Tish also directed and edited Sicilian Sojourn, a 20 minute documentary on responsible tourism and the cultural traditions of Sicily and co-produced and edited Ecological Design: Inventing the Future, shown at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival.

Collectively, LUNAFEST films captivate audiences, compel dialogue and arm those who participate with both the knowledge and the motivation to make a difference in their community. The nine short films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers. All proceeds from LUNAFEST will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and ACME Screening Room.

Radical Act is a documentary made in 1995 featuring some of the groundbreaking, female artists who burst onto the 1990′s punk scene, claimed a space for women in rock, and came to be known as the Riot Grrrl movement. The film is both a celebration of some of our favorite rockers and how they came to be that way, as well as snapshot of a specific time in music history. Featuring: Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre), Tribe 8, Toshi Reagon, Gretchen Phillips, Melissa York (Team Dresch, Vitapup, The Butchies), Meg Hentges, Kim Coletta (Jawbox, co-owner of DeSoto Records), Shirlé Hale (Mary Lou Lord, Gerty, Womyn of Destruction), Sincola, Sharon Topper (God is My Co-Pilot), journalist Evelyn McDonnell, author Victoria “Vicky” Starr, poet Jude O’Nym and Lisa WickWare.

Sara Marcus“Sara Marcus’s Girls to the Front is not only a historical rockument of the revolutionary 90s counterculture Riot Grrrl movement, which birthed the DIY feminist punk scene, but also a rousing inspiration for a new generation of empowered rebel girls to strap on guitars and stick it to The Man.” – Vanity Fair

Sara Marcus has written about music and politics for numerous publications, including Slate, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Time Out New York, The Forward, and Heeb magazine, where she was politics editor for five years. Marcus’ poetry has appeared in Encyclopedia, EOAGH, Tantalum, and The Art of Touring. She has an MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University, and was a fellow at the MacDowell Colony in 2008 and 2009.

In 1976, after years of mysterious absence, Marcus returns to the Philadelphia neighborhood where he came of age in the midst of the Black Power movement. While his arrival raises suspicion among his family and former neighbors, he finds acceptance from his old friend Patricia and her daughter. However, Marcus quickly finds himself at odds with the organization he once embraced, whose members suspect he orchestrated the slaying of their former comrade-in-arms. In a startling sequence of events, Marcus must protect a secret that could shatter everyone’s beliefs, as he rediscovers his forbidden passion for Patricia. Musical score by The Roots. Starring Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”).

Tanya HamiltonTanya Hamilton wrote and Directed Night Catches Us which premiered at The Sundance Film Festival in 2010. Hamilton developed the film’s script in the Sundance Filmmaker Labs in 1999 and received a prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts Grant for Night Catches Us (the only screenwriter to ever receive the award), the Gordon Parks Screenwriting Award, the Urban World Film Festival Screenwriting Award, a 5-County Arts Grant of the Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship. Her short film, The Killers, was awarded best short film at the 1996 Berlin International Film Festival and the 1997 New Line Cinema award. In the same year she also received the Director’s Guild of America Award for Best Female Director.
